One of my daughters-from-another-mother is close to signing...........can't say where yet, but she will be wrestling in mukluks and mittens.....:p:p

That OCU line-up of incoming freshmen would win most duals next season.............sheesh!!

Doc

Thank you for the information. This is great stuff. Wonder why Lindenwood's class is so small? OCU's room should just make everyone stronger. What a killer recruiting class!!! Congrats to all the recruits. Look forward to seeing OCU next year.

Does hoarding all the talent in one room make everyone stronger?

Does hoarding all the talent in one room make everyone stronger?

Ask the New York Yankees.

Hey, we need to form the "BPCW" club........Broke Parents of College Wrestlers.....

There are bets being made already who will make Archie's "Wall of Quitters" when school starts at OCU - trashcans at all four corners of the mat, LOL! ;)

Doc

I assume you are kidding. I was referring to making OCU stronger and the individual wrestlers better by the talent in the room. Look at Iowa or Penn State. Great talent working together makes them, the team members stronger. The harder they work in practice, the stronger they will be in competition.

Lindenwood has a few others signed, and several pending. So far signed are Tianna Camous- Folsom, Dakota Heisinger - Steele Canyon HS, Ca., Rachel-Jean Factora of Hawaii, Monique Ruiz of Texas, and Samantha Sepulveda of Texas.

You used the term "EVERYONE", not "EVERYONE IN THE ROOM".
And yes, everyone with a brain knows that if your work out partners push you everyday "SAID" occurs and you get better.
But for girls wrestling as a whole it does not help IMO.
But good for them.

Doc
05-20-2011, 04:23 PM
Cawrestlingfan: forgive me, but I was referring to everyone in the OCU room. Sorry I wasn't clear. As to all of womens college wrestling, the great number of better athletes to compete against, the higher the level of competition will rise to meet the challenge IMHO.

I agree with you to some extent but more would get better if they had a workout partner to push them everyday not just tournaments. Which is why I guess all these girls are at 1 school.
I guess until the girls have the same structure as the boy's in terms of number of entrance per school we should get useto it

Doc

Cawrestlingfan: Good points, I agree. Hopefully it will change over the next several years.

Best regards,
Doc

Yes, Mabel will be competing for the Boxers next year. They have a young program looking to grow in numbers and competition. Pacific competes in the NWCA and some NAIA.

I am very proud as a coach to announce that another one of my daughters-from-another-mother, Shai Mason from North Torrance has signed to wrestle for Jamestown College in the fall. With just one year of wrestling behind her, she has tons of upside potential.......Congratulations (and many kudos) to Coach Luke Santos and Shai - the hard work paid off !!!

Bump updates :)...But I also wanted to point something out...There are so many programs looking for experienced wrestlers and willing to give scholarship money, why does Cali only have 22 (maybe a little more for those that are still unknown) signed to colleges? It seems like such a small number for as many wrestlers as this state has and for such a great opportunity. Programs are popping up every year. This year, Midland University in Texas and Southwestern Oregon Community College started new programs. Maybe coaches need to really start looking at the college opportunities for girls and realize that they have a better chance of getting into a college program than the boys do. They don't all have to be elite wrestlers, they can just be good, and in some cases just have a bit of experience. Food for thought...Any comments?

Sure wish Cali would get more programs! Keep our girls in the state!

Like the boys, this is California, and once the season ends there are just too many distractions for these kids. Unless you are in the home with them breathing wrestling down there neck everyday wrestling will take a back seat. As a coach, we are not the parent, and ultimately the child will do what the parent wants over what the coach wants. Sometimes ,they just do what THEY want to do. So in my case, I graduated 3 girls this year. All CIF medalists, and one state medalist. The state medalist chose JC softball over wrestling, another chose a university w/o wrestling, and the third is now shacked up with a boy with no school in site. That's two parent decisions and one I'm going to do what I want decision. Sometimes I question my influence as a coach. There is only so much we can do once they leave the wrestling room.

Coach its been awhile. You could have not been more right with this post but never question your influence as a coach as you have done an incredible job as not just a coach but as a backup parent, you have spent too much time with these kids to cut yourself short. We as coaches will do what we need to in helping our kids make the best decisions but just like the old saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink." keep your head up coach and keep doing what you are doing, coaches like you are the ones that help make differences in a lot of kids lives.

Your so right, you can lead a horse to water and you can't make them drink, but eventually they will get thirsty.

Mike,
Cumberlands didn't put her on the roster. What i've learned is a lot of girls may have signed, but end up backing out for a number of reasons and don't wrestle. I'm going off of their final roster list on their site.

I havce seen you with your girls, and have seen the amount of respect they have for you. You still have an amazing amount of influnece over them. The problem lies in 1) the parents too afraid to let the kids go away to school, 2) parents relying on these kids to help support the family, and 3) not drilling it in them every day like their moves, that they are their so that they can take advantage of the oppurtunities provided to them.
Michelle is correct, colleges are chomping at the bit to sign girls. ESPECIALLY California girls. And a note to parents whose daughters who maybe havent thought of it as an option, trust me coaches will take a girl from California on a whim, even if they are not state placers. But the best chance to be seen, is to go to freestyle in the off season. Some girls thrive better in freestyle.
