I purchased Jay Morgan Head Gear for Christmas with the hope that it would encourage him to push with his head and use his head as a third hand more. It did all of the above for Jay and I am very happy with not having headgear problems during matches and constant fiddling which was becoming a habit to start after every break or period adjusting headgear during a match, not working for me, I like focus on the opponents position, head and hands. You can pull as hard as you like once adjusted and this head gear is a rock that stays in place.
HOWEVER, WHEN I FIRST PLACED THE HEAD GEAR ON JAY AFTER AN HOUR OF ADJUSTMENTS, I HAD HIM PUSH ON MY FOREHEAD WITH HIS FOREHEAD AND A NIPPLE LEFT FROM THE CASTING PUNCTURED MY FOREHEAD! I ALSO NOTICED SHARP EDGES AROUND THE ENTIRE HEAD GEAR! I TOOK A LIGHTER USED TO IGNITE THE BBQ AND SOFTENED THE PLASTIC AND PRESSED THE SHARP EDGES UNTIL THEY WERE SMOOTH, STARTING WITH THE NIPPLE LEFT IN THE ROUND CIRCLE IN THE CENTER OF THE FRONT PIECE THAT PUNCTURED ME.
One other word of advice take a picture of the straps before you adjust anything and keep it in your phone. If you dont really seat the straps and tape the ends of the two fixed straps, you can not tape the end of the one strap used to adjust so there is always a chance that the straps come out and you are standing with spaghetti in your hand and a dumb look on your face. I found the straps do not lace like I thought they would. There is more of it out there now and so not such a big problem to find another to look at anymore. THE TOP STRAP ADJUST THE HEIGHT ON THE FOREHEAD AND THE LEFT STRAP THAT IS FIXED SHOULD BE EQUAL TO THE RIGHT STRAP WHICH ADJUST WHEN FULLY TIGHTENED.
Check your opponents headgear for the nipple sticking out on the forehead before the match starts.

I saw a match at Greco State where both wrestlers had that headgear on. It was like watching two battering rams.lol

I have a kid on my team use it because he was had gotten concussions in the past. I happy to say he finally had a complete season without a concussion.

yes, only thing missing was the horns and hooves. LOL
it seems this type of headgear is use to hurt or cut the opponent.

I can assure you the majority of wrestlers are not strapping headgear on to cut opponents up in this sport, as for the hurt, there is no head gear required for that.
In all seriousness the Cliff Keen Head Gear is much more dangerous with the hard plastic sides that are violently rubbed against the face and back of head, have your wrestlers try one of each on you with the same movements and pressure and give a review. I have seen the Cliff Keens win a few matches when used grinding the hard plastic into the exposed areas of the head and face.
The advantage of the Morgan Headgear is that it stays put, During the NCAA matches this year I was really surprised by the number of headgear malfunctions and that these fine Universities could not come up with a headgear that stays put and doesn't break in the middle of a match.

We must be talking about two different types of head gear, the one I'm speaking of has hard plastic in the front.
Lets think about this, one opponent has hard plastic with padding on his fore head and the other has none. who has the advantage?
I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ and PLEASE DON'T take this the worry way, but how about wearing a full faced motorcycle helmet, I don't think that will break in the match.
AND YES, I'M SURE MAJORITY ARE NOT !
We'll ask the ref to Check your opponents headgear for the nipple and sharp edges before the match starts. Thanks for the advice.

I don't post on this forum much anymore, I think the majority in youth wrestling is on the same page and there are a few that don't like change as always. The Morgan is a superior headgear as it does not move around during a match. It may look funny and some say provide an advantage with padding that is paper thin on the front of the head. My wrestlers are grinding their heads in with or without head gear and this is not the reason that Morgan is worn. It is simply worn due to its superior ability to do its job during tough matches and stay in place.
As usual I have notified the proper authorities of the issue I had with Morgan and you are welcome to discuss any issues with the fine men responsible for Morgan headgear.
Good wrestling and sportsmanship- Brian
Brian,
Thanks for calling my attention to this issue. The plastic factory who does our injection molding knows that each forehead piece has a vent in the forehead center. When the forehead piece comes out of the mold there is usually a small plastic nipple of plastic run off. THIS NIPPLE IS TO GROUND OFF OR CUT FLUSH WITH THE FOREHEAD PIECE BY THE FACTORY.
Obviously in your case it didn't happen. Your email will prompt an immediate inspection of all Morgan parts. Thank you for calling this issue to our attention.
Please call or email if you have further questions.
I am sincerely,
Gary

If I thought I would receive an advantage from a product during competition I would more than likely order it , however I think you will be highly disappointed at the battering ram effectiveness of the plastic in the front as it is not hard but pliable, you can roll it up in your hand as it is very pliable and the padding is not much thicker than a stick of gum.

I have a Morgan and I also have the Cliff Keen with hard plastic ear guards which I find much more likely to end a match when ground in the face or back of the head as I have seen them used so many times (that is not why I got them it just happened to be last years popular item at Reno and jay had to have it).

My kids have wrestled other kids wearing this headgear and only once have one of my kids complained about the other kid using it to grind into his forehead. I told him that his opponent would have a hard time doing it if he was looking up at the lights and sure enough..... it worked.
