That's a great story, I remember when Abedi and Ardeshir showed up for the San Francisco State tournament representing CSUB, it was in 1985 (not 1986 as the article says). They didn't speak much English. Ardeshir was seeded #1 at 158, and we met up in the semi's. His takedown technique was slick, although he didn't fully understand mat wrestling.

A few years later another Iranian wrestler/refugee named Abofazl Vagheff came by to watch a club practice at UC Irvine when I was in graduate school and ended up staying on my couch for a couple of weeks.
