How does one get to wrestle in a JC?

The first thing you need to do is contact the Coach of the desired school. That is the first step.

And if they do not reply? Is there a cut off time when a coach closes the team for the next year. I have a senior who wants to wrestle for a JC. Obviously not being recruited at this point. Any thought ideas and all honesty is greatly appreciated

Call Paul Keysaw @ Fresno City or Donnie Garriott @ Cerritos--there are a ton of great JC coaches but I know both of those will definately call you back

What is the wrestler long term goals? Is it just to wrestle at the JC level, transfer to a D 1 school etc.

Depending on which Div 1 school he is interested in, you guys might want to look into the JC feeder program for that College.

You can go on to the JC website to see if they have an athletic secretary. That is who we made contact with and she had the coach call us.

I am assuming that it must be competitive to get on a JC team? There are so many good wrestlers and only so many guys are ready for a 4 year college D1 or D2 team when they graduate. Can anyone elaborate a bit more on the process? Or is it simply that easy.

Its actually really simple. You enroll and make sure you take the intercollegiate wrestling class. Make sure you are taking 12 Units

Go to caccwrestlilng.com It has contact information for all the California Community Colleges. They all have positives. A lot depends on where you live and whether you want to stay close to home or move on. Check with the coaches on Academics, Wrestling Strength, Transfers, etc. Whatever you think is important....ASK!!!

I highly reccomend you check with at least three programs to compare...but the more you compare the better knowledge you will come out with. Start early. No time like today to make the call and / or email.

I apologize for jumping in on an older thread so late, but this applies to what we're trying to do here in Illinois.

Obviously, we come to this board in effort to attract and recruit great California kids. We feel that Triton College in River Grove, Illinois (west suburban Chicago) offers the combined academic and athletic opportunities that serious student-athletes are looking to obtain from their college experience. Check out our website: http://www.triton.edu/Content.aspx?id=7156. Our academic and athletic success speaks for itself, and we are interested in the young man who can balance his academic and athletic load with success.

Let's face it, college wrestling opportunities are limited and not really growing. We don't only recruit young men from Illinois, though the majority of our roster is made of Illinois natives. We recruit young men from across the nation who FIRST, take their academics seriously. If you cannot cut it in the classroom, then you cannot compete for us. We have more than 100 Academic All-Americans and counting to back up this fact. Second, we want young men who wrestle hard in all three positions and are willing to be coachable (we cannot stress this enough) and put the work to be the best in country and move on to greater success at the DI, DII, DIII or NAIA levels. We've not had young men travel from Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, New York and many other states for the fun of it. With 83 All-Americans, 15 National Champions, four National Team Championships and counting, we do a lot more than just compete; we win.

Triton College wants California kids, plain and simple. If you think you might want to take the big leap of heading to the Midwest for a rigorous educational curriculum and a very demanding and competitive college wrestling atmosphere, then we want to be that destination for you. Here's a link to our recruitment questionnaire: http://www.triton.edu/Content.aspx?id=6939. If you or anyone you know is interested in wrestling for one of the most historic programs in the NJCAA, we would very much like to hear from you.

Best of luck to all California wrestlers as you seek your goal of becoming a state champion!
