just curious...who is the "pac" vote that put Calvary 9th??? i understand duals are part of the equation (we barely lost to Santa Ana), but aren't cif, masters, and state expectations part of that equation as well?
willing to bet "pac" that calvary wins CIF....wonder if they'll move up to 8th in that vote

Garrett,
You know what is even funnier or just as funny? Jarmie beats my team by 8 or something like that and we lost to Villa Park by 1 who is the top team in the county and the clown puts us in as 7th---oh, and that is after winning a 35 team tournament. What a freaking clown! VP beat him by 25 or more

If the 3 reps that do not care enough to participate, would, things would look different, there is a huge variance without 100% participation. Should be calling out the Empire, Orange and Golden West Leagues.

So, am I interpreting it correctly? Cliff Jarmie thinks Calvary is the 8th best team in orange county, and John Phillips thinks they're 9th??

If you all would take time to read the date, the last poll was 2/6, the general idea is that CIF, Masters and state finishes should stand for themselves and no poll should tell us any different. There will be a final OCWCA ranking when the results of the last four weeks will be taken into consideration. Remember, this is just a poll and it was created for fan interest and it is also provided to the OC Register for publication each week, in the end it does not really mean squat and it is certainly not intended for those voting to get called out about, it is only to spark interest in the sport and have a little fun.

You and I get "called out" all the time. It goes with the responsibility of being a ranker. Before CiF, I accurately posted on this thread Calvary would win CiF; and I just want to evaluate the accuracy of these rankers. I have no problem posting the actual results of SS Masters next to my rankings so that all may see what we predicted accurately and what we didn't. On one of my posts, I even apologized to the 23% placers we underestimated :) I am merely having fun pointing out that these particular rankers "underestimated" Calvary. I hope that's o.k.

I can see where there might be a need for change, however it should be done through your high school coach discussing a lack of continuity or even a guideline the coaches meeting rather than it being discussed on the forum, maybe an even more direct dialogue can be benefit the process, because problems as far as ranking the top-10 have been an issue since the early 80's when I started coaching. My view on rankings is different even from yours, I am more of a actual result guy and I really do not try and predict rankings, but then again they serve a little different purpose than your section rankings do and appreciate the combination of both. Speaking of both, maybe we need two sets of team rankings, dual and individual tournament?

Stevie, Garrett,
did you get your panties twisted or something? Tha poll was in early February and was actually the one from the week before. I vote on a week to week basis, and try to reward and reflect the most current events. Now, if there was a final poll (why wasn't there a final poll this year, lie all tother years, hmmm..a topic for another thread!), here is what mine would like like and why:
1 LH CIF Champions, 3rd Masters, beat 2 other really good teams Canyon Springs and Alta Loma at CIF that also placed 4th and 8th at Masters
2 CC CIF Champions, 9th Masters, 5 to State
3 VP 3rd CIF, 25th Masters, best team for most of the year, should be OC Team of the Year
4 El Do 4th CIF, wrestled strong at end when it counts
5 SA solid all year, dual victory over CC, 6th CIF, 12th Masters
6 FV 4th CIF, 15th Masters, finished strong
7 SERV 5th CIF, solid all year, fell off a bit at Masters
8 CV 7th CIF, 5 Masters qualifiers, 2 to state
9 SC slid all year, weak schedule hurts, dropped a bit at CIF and Masters
10 CAN finished strong 5th CIF, and I actually like Scott, he is the kinder, gentler, better looking Lawson
Tough to separate some teams, there are dual results and tournament results that counter-act each other. I placed more emphasis on year end results, since this is a final poll.
BTW, what we did in November is insignificant in my mind. VP beat us early, yes. They were cut down to weight, in late season shape and clearly were pointing towards peaking to beat us. I am honored to be such a target. We were fat, out of shape, and got beat. Kudos to Aaron and SS, they got their kids ready and got a "special" victory. The problem with starting so strong is that it is hard to keep it going for the entire season with high school kids. VP's season -long performance was awesome, it should net them the OC Team of the year in my opinion. At least I didn't rank you 9th, like the Sunset league did.
You must like that guy more than me, you left him out of your rave!
Your favorite clown,
Cliff

Always tough to weigh a whole seasons worth of work but for grins:
1. Laguna Hills -good finish to end year, another cif championship for hawks, great showing as masters, jarmie knows how peak his guys at right time
2. Villa Park- tough cif with Bloomington and Northview, league champs in prob toughtest league in O.C.
3. Calvary Chapel- nice first season under harmon, cif champs, tough replace tank and morgan but looking strong as a team again
4. Servite- they lost alot last year and still had good season, alan got this factory pumping out wrestlers left and right, tough cif hard score alot points
5. El Dorado- good showing at cif despite couple studs not placing, great dual with vp decide league champ, wouldn't want dual them next year.
6. Fountain V.- team took some big steps forward last couple years, Woodbury and Co. putting together tough program year in and out.
7. Santa Ana- solid team all way across, tough cif knocked out couple good kids, most cif's prob have additional 2 placers at least
8. Cap Valley- looked good all year long, out scored servite and fountain valley at 5C's, five cif placers not too shabby either
9. Valencia- real young team, back to back cif runner up at duals, tough cif indiv keeps them from scoring alot but watch out next year
10. Canyon- strong showing at cif and masters, some tough individuals, team peaked at right time
Others that were close: San Clemente, Brea, Marina, Sunny Hills, Troy, Edison, Los Alamitos

Hey Cliff. VP beat CC at state. CC always clAims that all that matters. Also if you wanted to avenge your dual meet loss you should have went to CIF Duals and tried to beat us instead of opting out. We lost one dual all year to Div 1 Champion Centennial and won the toughest league in the Section. No disrespect but we all know you don't win CIF if you and CC are in our division because Northview was there. Your guys did great congrats on CIF Title but you can't lose to a team by 20 then back out of a rematch at CIF Duals and then say your better it doesn't matter . Kind of silly. Missed you at Awards Ceromoney in Bakersfield Saturday night. I'll send you a postcard from Virginia Beach at end of month

occoach: "VP beat CC at state"
state meet results:
LH 38th
VP 46th
CC 49th
pretty embarrassing, certainly nothing to write home about!
Give me that CIF Championship in February over a Nov. 30 dual meet any day. Nest thing you know, SS will say that one state placer is better than a CIF Championship!
After days of negotiation, failed hostile takeover attempts, and lots of forum bickering, VP has agreed to wrestle LH at the Dinner Dual next year. SS has promised not to try to get team points deducted from LH for pointing out to the ref that a LH wrestler is shirtless while sitting on the team bench. More details to follow.
just having fun,
Cliff

Since dual results don't matter we are trying to schedule Clovis and Penn State too. "The only way to assure you don't lose is to choose not to compete" Dave Schultz

you are hilarious....state is all that matters!!! wish you agreed with that philosophy when it didn't suit you (the last 20 years)...let's see if you stick with that mindset in the future....................
