wow...talking to jim shields...that's pretty cool...(you were like a legend to many others...)
ray haas was a for sure legit coach...i talked to you at his funeral at forest lawn, cypress.
small world indeed...ties to stillwater before you went there. irvine and freeway league i think...lowell was light blue and red...you are right. you are up in clovis i heard, do you like it. is it kind of like being in the "midwest?"
i coached at Kennedy 1984-91...i put your cif award picture and a few others back up on the wall in the coaches office (they had pic's in a box)..my last year (after being second a few times) we won league and i was voted league coach of the year. then moved to mission viejo the next year.

Not to my recollection...The name does sound familiar tho. I'm sure that he would have kicked my butt if we had met on the mat. I was a JV kid at Western, I was behind Dick Deffenbaugh who was our teams best wrestler. It just so happens that Dick was from Stillwater Oklahoma, and his older sister had dated my future coach at OSU, Tommy Chesbro !!! Samll World isn't it ??? We were at 148lbs...this was in 1964. In 1965, I was at Kennedy HS wrestling at 157, I had a 50-50 record that year. As a Soph, I lasted for a month, I hurt both my shoulder, and hac a jaw infection due to an absessed molar. My coaches were TERRIBLE, but I didn't know it at the time. I got lucky when I had to traansfer to Kennedy in 65, I got a really good coach who had a real wrestling background in a Penn. HS, and at Ohio State. Ray Haas. ;-)
Lowell HS was not in our league, we were the Irvine League I think, I do remember seeing Lowell kids being tuff tho,,,,were their school colors light blue and red ??

I have no idea! I think he is doing a great job and busting his butt to keep the program.

My Junior year I wrestled in the East All Star Match at Franklin and Marshal. Dan Gable was the honorary coach for the West.
My Senior year it was at Oregon State.
