To all coaches and officials, please think back to all the blood you spilled as a competitor, the blood you have cleaned up as a coach, or even the blood times you have called as an official.....Now, what is one more pint? Did you know that if donors gave blood three times a year shortages would be a rare event. This is an opportunity to help others in need, who knows, it could be someone you know, or even yourself someday. All blood type donors are encouraged, even challenged to donate.

The rarest blood type is the one not on the shelf when it's needed by a patient.

Please if you can remind everyone to eat well within 3-4 hours before donating and to drink lots and lots of water and stay away from caffeine if at all possible. Caffeine shrinks the veins and actually dehydrates the body. Bring their photo ID....driver’s license, student body card....anything with first and last name as well as their photo will do. We’ve even taken CostCo. cards as ID. Now get those potential donors out and donating on Friday evening.

Top Ten Reasons To Give Blood


10. You will get free juice and cookies. (Even you Tate)
9. You will weigh less — one pint less when you leave than when you came in. (great for that last .2 on the scale)
8. It's easy and convenient — it only takes about an hour and you can make the donation at the California USA Wrestling State Event. (better than losing a pint from your nose)
7. It's something you can spare — most people have blood to spare... yet, there is still not enough to go around. (what if you needed some...and the blood banks had a shortage)
6. Nobody can ask you to do any heavy lifting as long as you have the bandage on--You can wear it for as long as you like. It's your badge of honor. (might save you an extra honey do, from the honey do list)
5. You will walk a little taller afterwards — you will feel good about yourself. (a lot of people could walk a little taller)
4. You will be helping to ensure that blood is there when you or someone close to you may need it. Most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do. (my daughter needed 2 units as an eleven month old...what if your child needs some)
3. It's something you can do on equal footing with the rich and famous — blood is something money can't buy. Only something one person can give to another. (much better than giving a disease)
2. You will be someone's hero — you may give a newborn, a child, a mother or a father, a brother, or a sister another chance at life. In fact, you may help save up to three lives with just one donation. (cue up Bonnie Tyler from Footloose movie song..."I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night" why wait until the end of the night)
1. It's the right thing to do. (like the Nike slogan...JUST DO IT!)

The actual results after processing all the paperwork is the following: 41 people registered to donate with 10 deferrals so we were able to collect 31 pints of blood from your wonderfully successful drive. Out of the 41 who registered 31 were first time donors with the Central California Blood Center......that was huge. You did a wonderful job recruiting donors and making the drive happen and to be so very successful. We can’t thank you enough. Out of all the drives we had on Friday through Sunday.....yours and one other were the only ones that went over projection and most didn’t even get half of what we were hoping for.
