I love me some Gene Doi I meanDoi girls but Barr did have a great tournament and really brought the pain. But my kid has been in these cross hairs before so ill stay out of it.

I can tell you how they do the OW at tournaments up here in the frozen north.....seems to work very well with minimal whining.


Coaches are called together at end for a quick meeting, and the directors ask for names of those who went undefeated, then with undefeated with all pins, and then the coaches of those wrestlers left give their pitch......"My guy went 5-0, all pins,and beat two state-placers". A wrestler may go 5-0, but had soft bracket, where another may go 4-0 and knocked out some rock-stars........this gives the opportunity for the coaches to present the information

A consensus is taken, or a quick coaches vote on the 1-3 remaining candidates. This way, every coach hears the accomplishments of a potential OW for the tourney and makes an informed decision and reduces the popularity bias. Takes about 5 minutes.

I know some coaches don't like to brag so after every finals match winning coach gets an index card states his case for his wrestler coaches get to read them all on the table cast their vote and boom. There is your winner

I think it just all depends on what you think is OW worthy. I have always thought OW was the most dominate person and most enjoyable to watch wrestle. OW was always the person that you stopped what you were doing to watch them wrestle, regardless of who they were wrestling. I know at some of the bigger tournaments in nation, they would give an award for most pins in the fastest time. That is a Most Pins award not OW. Just my opinion, take from it what you will.

Overall it was a great tournament. We definitely had a great time, with some good wrestling. Thanks Mike.
