Default Think twice before buying a tanita...problems

I tried to get my $350 Tanita scales certified this week. In the past it has been no problem to find a licensed place to get it done. I wanted to get it recalibrated to be more precise and accurate and what I found surprised me. Tanita will no longer release the technical information required for them to be recalibrated. It is not hard to do...takes 15 minutes and $45 but Tanita has a new policy. The scales have to be sent to Illinois for yearly recalibration. I talked to three people including two managers and they wouldn't budge. I asked how much would it cost....$125 plus shipping. It will cost in excess of $150 to do what I can get done for $45 around the corner. I told them that coaches will likely stop using their product. We could buy a brand new scale every two years for the price of recalibration.

All the body fat assessoring scales and other models will have to be shipped out for repair and simple recalibration.

I'm buying something different. No more tanita.

GREAT heads up! I have to get my scale re-calibrated! Instead, I'll look to acquire a new one! I hear Balfour's work just fine, and often times are more affordable! Good luck Coach Hicks. Thanks for the feedback!
