Points will be given to wrestlers based upon place finish (1st thru 8th). All wrestlers from a given state will be able to score points for their state. Note: No points will be given for placers in the Girlís or Open Divisions. We have done our best to pair states up against states, based on past entries, of current number and strength. There will be competition for each Age Group, as well as an overall winner. These results will be posted on our website and in future programs. The state pairings are as follows:
* Ohio vs. Pennsylvania
* Michigan vs. New York
* Illinois vs. New Jersey
* Maryland vs. Virginia
* Indiana vs. West Virginia
* North Carolina vs. South Carolina vs. Tennessee
* Connecticut vs. Massachusetts vs. New Hampshire
* Maine vs. Rhode Island vs. Vermont
* Nebraska vs. North Dakota vs. South Dakota
* Colorado vs. Georgia vs. Missouri
* Iowa vs. Oklahoma vs. Texas
* Idaho vs. Montana vs. Utah vs. Wyoming
* Alabama vs. Delaware vs. Florida vs. Kentucky
* California vs. Kansas vs. Minnesota vs. Wisconsin
* Arizona vs. Nevada vs. New Mexico vs. Oregon vs. Washington
* Alaska vs. Arkansas vs. Hawaii vs. Louisiana vs. Mississippi
In addition, there will be one final competition, with that being: Ohio/Pennsylvania vs. USA
Here is a brief synopsis as to the keys for each state winning their competition:
WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO WIN?
CALIFORNIA VS. KANSAS VS. MINNESOTA VS. WISCONSIN
If all of these states sent 50 of their top kids, then California would probably come out on top. But, the distance obviously has to be factored in. Kansas used to send a good number, but hasnít for several years. Meanwhile, the numbers for Wisconsin and Minnesota have been on the rise. One or two major clubs, from any one state deciding to attend,will obviously sway things that stateís way. Not sure which way to lean here, as I have heard from coaches in all four states with interest in attending.
OHIO/PA VS. USA
In the recent past, PA has had the most placers, followed by Ohio. Pairing the two states together, to take on the rest of the US, would seem to favor these two states. However, a look at past results seem to indicate that this competition will be extremely close. While PA and OH have had more top 4 placers, they only have had about 45% of the overall top 8 place finishers. Obviously, the key to winning will be being able to maintain the dominance in the top 4 placements.
The key for the USA winning will be in getting in getting more wrestles from key states, such as New Jersey, Illinois and New York to participate, as well as getting groups of wrestlers from states like Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and California to attend. More wrestlers from East and Southeast states like Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, North & South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida, as well as the New England states, could really help push them over the top.
