    Default couple things

answered one of my own questions...was looking at cifss.org when should have been looking at cifstate.org. duh.

    second "observation"

With trying to get equality (cringe) a couple things seem "unfair"

    example:
    1. How come the guys CIF get individualized medals with place/weight etc...printed on them with a delineation of colors representing places and girls get generic same exact medal for being a CIF "champion" to 12th place. no difference, no weights (as I recall) or places engraved on the back. it is what it is, but that kind of sucks.

    2. Why at SS CIF were there no OW? There was at guys CIF (at least at SLO where we were). I asked and the lady at the table and she said "I was told we are not giving out OW at this tournament (girls)" What? (its not her fault, she was just following directions)

correct me if I am wrong, did they not do it last year (OW)? I have been wrong before...uh...many times. so it wouldnt surprise me :-)

trying to level the playing field, which will never happen because they are just different (yes girls and guys are different) but what should be bar be set to to be "equal". What should be considered "equal" when talking about guys and girls CIF/state?

blah blah blah, guys CIF is way tougher than girls...totally. BUT what should be kept equal where it CAN be kept equal. for some (if not most?) they are practicing right along side those CIF male champions all year in the wrestling room, going through the same workouts, etc...

I am not a feminazi here, dont read into this. My boys rock the house. but it sucks that they work so hard in a sport where they are minority, and they dont even get a medal saying they were a champion, or second, or third and there is no girl in the place "worthy" enough to give an OW award too.

Well, I can address a couple of your questions...As for OW last year, there was none. We were not allowed to have one the same as this year. In addition, we weren't allowed to give team awards last year, too. This year, they gave permission to give team awards, but would not supply them. The large CIF plaques were purchased and provided by another school, whom I will only identify if they say I can. As for the smaller team plaques, I was able to find a vendor to donate the funds and I provided them.

When it comes to the "uni"place medals, I have no answers. I felt the same as you last year when I opened the box. It was quite disappointing.

The fact that its the southern region not the Southern section could be why things are the way they are

I understand your concern and the nature of what is fair is fair, but instead of complaining on the forum, organize yourselves as a group and be advocates (or do both). Many of the things you mentioned in one form or another had to be worked for to obtain for the boys over the years. There was a time where the CIF-SS gave only five medals and two trophys for wrestling in one division. The state gave out 6 medals and a trophy. The administrators will give you the same BS about certain tournaments are just qualifiers, but that is just code for we do not want to spend the money I think.

The OCWCA will name girls all-county wrestlers and an OW for the first time this year and invite them to the season ending banquet.

so we have to reinvent the wheel twice? every four years do we need to get some advocates together to talk about taxes and how they are unfair...no....that has been established. Why is there a NEED to advocate. I dont think it is for awareness because I believe the awareness (since they already fought that battle as you say, with the guys) but following through.

sounds like complaining. didnt remember about OW or even team so thanks momhendey :-)

I figured someone had a good reason that I havent heard of, since I am not in all of the conversations...er...any of them. Just the forum. There I am an advocate. forum unite...

this is the only avenue some of us have. the good ole boys hold court for everything else. we gotta wait til they die off to squeeze our keisters in. a lot of joking here, but I got a young family to run so dont have much time on advocating when I could use that time for my son (second coming soon in may!) but appreciate conversation non the less.

Dare we say Title IX? SS refuses to acknowlede girl's wrestling as a sport, Girl's CIF medals are inferrior to the boys (no engraving), and no OW's at Regional competition. I hope we can get together and fix this, before some wrestling girl's lawyer father, decides to push the issue.

Tom while your chiming in can you explain how The Southern Section keeps bringing up the whole numbers issue as their reason for not recognizing girls wrestling but they recognize badminton lacrosse and field hockey? I can not name 3 schools in my area that has these sports. Yet the Southern Section wants crazy numbers before they will recognize girls wrestling.
