Mike, you are probably right that California will one day be split into to divisions. But no matter what happens, I hope wrestling will thrive in California and that somehow, universities and colleges will continue to add programs rather than eliminate programs.
Trevor, sorry my mind was still on the divisional discussion.

I agree and share your hope for the future. With the commitments that CAUSA and SCWAY are making in building thriving youth and High School off season programs, I believe wrestling is alive and well in both the youth and High School arenas. It is also exciting to see a number of small private California collages embrace wrestling.

Wrestling in our state universities may have a hard time coming back with budget issues and administrative attitudes but in time who knows.

I believe we hit the bottom and California wrestling is on the upswing.

When I come back to high school wrestling with my grandchildren I am sure that California will have multiple divisions at least five.
Doesn't this illustrate one of the points for divisions, as it concerns greater fan support.
Clearly you are a fan of the sport, and yet you are freely admitting that you will be leaving and not returning until you have grand-children. Why? I can only guess it is because your son will be done wrestling in high school. Divisions will allow more parents (like yourself) and grandparents (like yourself in the future) to attend and support their own children and grandchildren at a state tournament.

When California goes to divisions we will have to wait for the national tournaments to know who the real CA State Champs are.

I hope so! It's better for wrestling. We need to move forward. We could could go back to the old high school Fargo weights, it was much tougher then. I think people realized the change was better for wrestling and kids.

Having gone to many State Championship tournaments in numerous states where there are different divisions, I can tell you that those crowds of fans are REALLY into it....yes even more so than the California State finals... It adds to the fan base and the recognition of more schools and more wrestlers. It's a "no brainer" in so many different but positive ways, and it BENEFITS the sport in EVERY way. JMHO

We had a great showing at Both Tournaments. We sent the Best & they Showed that, there is Fine Wrestling in Calif> Due to so many Reasons-We will be a feeder to Some of the Great College Teams in the USA. There is One State Champ in each Weight for Calif-Granted that its still "How Good were you on two Days in March". Wrestling In Calif Has the One winner & so many who try-That is better then the idea , that we water down the Sport, to Make More Money ??, to have more Winners??-Do we believe that everyone should get a Medal-Just for trying-Or is the Chance to Compete Enough ?? Just a thought.

I agree with old school Larry! California should only have one true state champion.

When I moved to Cali 5 years ago, one state champ was new to me but I quickly loved it cause it got rid of the controversy over who was the best in the state. With so many kids in the state and so many schools, it is hard to not want divisions but it only makes for the best to rise above and become the best against all odds.
1 state champ=the best without argument!
I would put Cali's state champs head to head against anyone right now! And they have proved it recently!
