Thoughts on the match...(first of all it is sweet that Alex bumped up and still won FloNationals):
I thought that Alex was the better wrestler the entire match. The potentially dangerous call in the first period was the only way that the PA kid was able to stay in the match. Alex would have gotten the takedown and the ride out.
Second thought: The near fall was very questionable. It did not look like a 45 degree turn...barely 90 degrees.
Needless to say, Alex showed heart. I think he would have won in the ultimate tie breaker on top or bottom.
Congrats to Alex!!!
I too thought the nearfall in the 2nd was questionable, and the non-near fall count in the 3rd was also questionable. Cisneros had him in the Petersen for a bit before his opponent shuffled out. I know it's easy to have the luxury to see it on the computer, so I'll give the ref a pass.
"Very good. But brick not hit back!" Chong Li
The best part of the match was after it when interviewed and asked about the CIF Finals match and Alex spoke to the crowd and told them Nikko Villarreal is the 132# state champ and he gave him a shout out and said he loved him
All Class baby--All Class
It was great to see Alex close out his prep career as a champion---but I think at the end of the day he will be remembered and revered for always displaying an incredible amount of class
There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin'. Now, people who talk the talk, when it comes time for them to walk the walk, you know what they do? They talk people like me into walkin' for them.
the ref let that kid stall and hold onto the leg for 25 seconds of the 30 second tiebreaker. Horrible.
