Exclamation America's Cup - Initial Info

We are once again preparing for our 3rd Annual America’s Cup/Western States this Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27). The event has grown by leaps and bounds each year and we expect this year to be the toughest field yet.

The America’s Cup will be run Friday evening and Saturday morning/afternoon in a dual format. Friday will consist of pool matches while Saturday will be bracket format. Placement in Friday’s pools will determine bracket placement for Saturday. We’re looking to have pools of 4 teams that feed into 8-team brackets on Saturday (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Black).

    Estimated Dual Times:
    Friday – 4pm, 6pm, 8pm
    Saturday – 10am, 12pm, 2pm

In order to make the event manageable and allow as much participation as possible throughout our state, each Zone (http://www.roadtostate.com/RULES.html) has been assigned a Zone Leader. This Zone Leader is the representative for that particular Zone and is responsible for Zone teams. Each Zone will receive TWO teams: a Gold Team with the Zone’s best wrestlers and a Silver Team with the Zone’s 2nd best wrestlers. We will fill slots with as many out-of-state teams as possible and then if room, fill in the remaining slots with further Zone teams. If you want to for sure have a spot, the Gold and Silver teams are the only teams guaranteed in the tournament. Each dual team can have up to 18 wrestlers and each wrestler is automatically entered into the individual format Western States event on Sunday.

If you are interested in getting on an America’s Cup Team, please look for information from your Zone Leader to be posted on the forum on how and when teams are being formed/determined. Here is a list of Zone Leaders and the general area (by county) for each Zone:

    Zone 1 (Del Norte/Siskiyou/Modoc to Yolo/Placer) - Shawn Andrade
    Zone 2 (Sacramento/El Dorado to Merced/Mariposa) - Derek Scott
Zone 3 (Sonoma/Napa to Monterey) - Carolyn Wester
    Zone 4 (Madera/Fresno/Kings/Inyo) - Ian Shaw
    Zone 5 (Tulare/Kern/San Louis Obispo/Santa Barbara) - Kirk Moore
    Zone 6&7 (Ventura/Los Angeles/Orange/San Bernadino/Riverside) - Steve Lawson
Zone 8 (San Diego & Imperial) - Joe Terribilini

Best of luck in the coming weeks preparing. We are looking at an incredibly strong out-of-state field with tentative commitments already from Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Idaho, Florida, Minnesota, and Michigan.

If you have questions, please FIRST direct them to your Zone Leader. More information will follow in the coming weeks. The event is 7 weeks away from today!

From what I understand Joe Gelormini is the Zone 8 leader, is this correct?

I believe they are working together and that's fine. But for my purposes, Joe Terribilini is the guy I'll interface with.

Joe Gelormini is the Zone leader for HS and Tom Storer is the Zone leader for the youth in SD

Adam wants Terriblini to handle the organizational duties for the San Diego teams as he was pretty involved last year and did a great job with the administrative stuff.

We will correct the information so there is no confusion beetween the Joe's

ATRAIN maybe we should use the term Zone Team Coordinator

There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin'. Now, people who talk the talk, when it comes time for them to walk the walk, you know what they do? They talk people like me into walkin' for them.

Joe G. and Joe T. are working together on this. Since Joe Eddie, is a organization freak and did the organization with Adam last year he is the communication guy.

How many more Joe's will be helping?
You can have all the talent in the world, but if you're not willing to work hard, then what's the point.
