Until Thomas Boeh leaves, its not likely to happen. Even if the program could self sustain, he's not interested. He'd rather have a field hockey team the has 3 wins in 3 years.
Fresno Pacific AD Dennis Janzen has expressed interest. He said he only needs $1.5mil to get the program going. FPU is moving to the NCAA next year in DIV. II, but could easily bump up to D1 with the local talent and funding.

    Default Welty to Blame

My guess is that Welty is to blame. Boeh doesn't wipe his butt without permission or blessing of John Welty. I think the lacrosse team was a wonderful addition to the program. 3-10 this season....best season in their history (also the only three wins in history) and 1-6 in conference. I don't know about the rest of you, and not being a numbers guy like Adam T. or a math guy like Chris D., but I am pretty certain running a Div 1 wrestling program costs a whole heck of a lot less that the:

    $9 million + to Johnson-Klein
    $4.52 mil to Vivas
    $3.5 mil to Milutinovich
    $605K to Wright (so far)

but, maybe I am just bitter that the states best high school wrestlers live within an hour and a half (and some 10 -30 minutes) radius of Fresno State.

That's a great lineup in theory, but Nick Nevills has another year of high school.

After seeing all the top-tier competition at the Jr. America's Cup, hearing about the America's Cup, and the Western States, it is perverse that there is not a college program in the Fresno area. That area is our Pennsylvania, a state with one-third of our population and three times the division I programs we have.

I've always wondered what the Tirapelle's could do at Fresno State with 9.9 schollies?

That is the most logical idea, but it won't happen. Outside of Dennis Deliddo, no one has been more publicly critical of Fresno State cutting wrestling than Steve and Adam Tirapelle. Those small minds at Shaw and Cedar wouldn't be able to get passed that, IMO. In particular, Boeh has resorted to accusations of name-calling when exposed to tough but respectful questioning.
