Default Increasing Participation starting with the youth

Why not incorporate slotted times for the different age groups? Wrestling is one of the few if not only sport where a kid and his/her family has to stay anywhere from 8-12 hours at a tournament for 3-5 matches. Most other sports are done within 2-3 hours. Football, soccer, and baseball events are slotted by age groups. You don't see 8 year olds playing at the same time as 15 year olds. This could and should be done for beginning to intermediate level tournaments. I understand that this might not be best format for state level events, but if the kids can compete at that level, they're already hooked.

    Any other thoughts or suggestions?

CMWA and MDWA use staggered start times for kids and cadets through open. It works great. Kids usually weigh-in 7-8, start at 9. Cadets and up usually weigh-in 11-12, start at 1:00.

SAWA started doing that this season, it works great...Kids are done by 11-12 and the cadets and juniors run from 11:15-4
