I thought all the kids at wrestle in junior america's cup were supposed to wrestle in 14 and under. Per clovis coaches and scway. I see all the kids are dropped down to 12 and under. we brought a lot of 11 year olds that were not ready for america's cup but wanted a chance to win a medal. SO MUCH FOR INTEGRITY AND TRUTHFULNESS AT LAST USA WRESTLING DOES NOT LIE TO YOU THEY TELL YOU WHAT TO EXPECT. this could have been done by mistake but either way it is a black eye for either clovis or scway or borh.

Either way it is good mat time for the kids. The medals are nice but you have to look at the big picture. My 11 yr is going 14u for the experience.

I had heard the same thing. However when I talked to the Clovis coaches last night they were just becoming aware that many of the lower weights were actually 12 u and some 10u kids that wrested for team to fill weight brackets so the team did not have to forfeit matches. If those kids didn't step up and wrestle most of the lower brackets would have been forfeit. Tirapelli and his staff are doing the right thing. My kid didn't wrestle yesterday and will be wrestling 8 of the kids who did but we didn't come down to Clovis to buy a medal or a trophy we came here to earn it. I say good job to SCWAY and Clovis for catching the issue.

Either way you should do what you say. All a man has is his word.

don't get me wrong I totally agree it's all about the mat experience , we passed up local tournaments drove 3 hours got hotel rooms because kids wanted a chance at a 5 inch medal. if clovis wanted to change their mind to do what's right for the kids hey should have posted what they were going to do . giving kids parents and coaches options.
a man is only as good as his word . isn't that what we teach our kids

With a 3 day event this big, something is bound to happen. Adam and Ernie are good at getting things fixed. Im sure they will get any issue resolved quickly.

The transition between the duals and western states has not been an easy one as both events have grown and will likely continue to grow based on our feedback from out of state teams as well as our core clubs. We are not sure at this point what the right solution is. We may go to an age based duals next year which is 8u, 10u, 12u, 15u all with 6 -8 teams in each pool and then transition them into the appropriate age based brackets for the individual event.

I try and pride myself on doing what I say--keep in mind that the initial ruling was based on effeciency of trying to get 600+ kids in the brackets however after looking at some of the weight classes and date of births it was an easier transition then we previously had thought since many of the lighter weights were 10u or 12u so we made the change when and where we had the data to do so.

We will look at ways to improve the event as we do every event. If we disappointed I apologize and please send me feedback to ernie@scway.org

There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin'. Now, people who talk the talk, when it comes time for them to walk the walk, you know what they do? They talk people like me into walkin' for them.

Are you any lesser of a man if you realize you were initially wrong and change your course of action? I will emphatically say if your coming to our events because you sized up a bracket and thought you could win a medal at the expense of legitimacy and fairness than we are 100% not the organization for you.

placing the kids in the appropriate age groups was the right thing to do. I don't think it was an attempt to mislead, but figuring out things as they unfolded. I would not recommend changing the Jr. America's Cup format because the line-ups would become depleted. Rather, keep the Jr. High label (maybe have a minimum age), and allow kids to compete in their age group during Western States. There is nothing wrong with find the proper solution at the 11th hour. It is innovative.
The Jr. America's Cup was perfect the way it unfolded.
